Charyn Canyon — the canyon stretched on 154 km along the river Charyn in Kazakhstan. The canyon settles down in 195 km to the east of Almaty, near the border with China. The canyon is included in territory of Charyn national park, form on February, 23, 2004. Charyn canyon is a monument of nature, build from siltages age of that makes about 12 million years. The height of sheer mountains of canyon arrives at a 150-300 m.
The most interesting place for tourists is the so-called Valley of Castles, which length makes about 2 km, width — 20-80 m.
In a bosom of a canyon the grove of a relic type of the ash-tree which endured a freezing era — sogdiysky ash-tree remained. Other similar grove is only in North America. Since 1964 the Ashen grove is declared by the Nature sanctuary. Also huge interest is represented also by a turangov’s grove — a grove of an Asian poplar.
A landscape variety of the Charyn canyon causes variety of flora and fauna. Here grows more than 1500 species of plants, 17 from which 25 species of reptiles are included in the Red List of Kazakhstan and 62 species of mammals, 103 species of the nesting birds.
